Where we are…
Taroona is a southern suburb of Hobart, Tasmania. It sits between the western shores of the lower Derwent estuary and the forested foothills of Mount Nelson and The Lea.
The name “Taroona” is said to derive from the the Aboriginal word for the chiton, a marine mollusc found on rocks in the inter-tidal and shallow sub-tidal regions of our beaches.
Who we are…
The Taroona Environment Network is a local volunteer Landcare group formed in 1997 to value, protect and enhance Taroona’s natural environment.
Our landcare work is endorsed by the Kingborough Council’s Bushcare Unit and supported by Landcare Tasmania. Monthly working bees to weed and plant are held at sites along Taroona’s foreshore and reserves. View our Working Bee Calendar via the Events tab for upcoming working bees and special events.
The day-to-day work of TEN is voluntary and includes maintaining our work sites, organising community events, providing expertise to community members (e.g. schools, other local organisations and individuals) and developing online information and outreach to the local community.
For major projects, we seek financial support via grants and donations. You can become a financial member of TEN for just $5.00 per calendar year. Tax deductible donations are also gratefully received.
